07/18/2012 THE BIG NICKEL TURNS 48!
SUDBURY, ON – Celebrate the Big Nickel’s 48th birthday on Sunday July 22nd at Dynamic Earth with coin-making, on-site and online GPS challenges, and of course, birthday cake! Dynamic Earth will also be issuing limited-edition commemorative Mineral Cards to the first 150 families who visit. Try your hand at making your own commemorative coin from Plaster of Paris and take home your creation! As well, join us for a special one-day-only GPS scavenger hunt where you and your team can race around Dynamic Earth using handheld GPS devices to search out hidden letters. Once you find all of your letters, unscramble them to make a secret word. If you solve the puzzle, you can take home some great prizes from the Rockhound Lab including ore samples and Mineral Cards! For all you geocachers, we are offering a special chance for you to participate in our geocaching.com challenge! To complete this challenge, all you need to do is post a photo of yourself with the Big Nickel’s 48th birthday cake on the geocaching.com website before the 2 p.m. cake-cutting. Gain bragging rights at geocaching.com! Want to learn more about the outdoor adventures of geocaching? Visit the exhibition GPS Adventures Canada, now on display at Dynamic Earth, to get started! All activities are included with admission to Dynamic Earth and are free for Science North Members. Dynamic Earth is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with cake-cutting at 2 p.m. For more information, visit dynamicearth.ca/birthday. |
